Christmas is the favorite time of the year for many people, and the best part of it is preparing for it, even if this means decorating your house, shopping for gifts or cooking some special meals.

If decorating you house inside and outside has been a tradition in your family for many years, or you are just starting this now, here are ten things you should NEVER do when putting up your outside Christmas decorations.

1. Don’t start decorating if you don’t have a plan. Take your time and think about how to display your Christmas lawn decorations. Make sure you have all the tools and supplies that you need.

2. Don’t put up the lights without testing them before. You don’t want to spend hours on stringing all the lights, just to realize that some bulbs are burned, or some string doesn’t work at all. Plug them in before you get to work and you will save yourself from getting a headache.

3. Don’t overdo it with inflatable. They may look great and are easy to install, but too many of them will make your yard look like a bounce house party.

4. Don’t risk your own safety. If you have a very steep roof, take extra care when putting up the lights. You may consider hiring a professional in some cases.

5. Don’t line sidewalks with lights if they are not held up by stands. You may risk your stand to be wiped out by a careless driver.

6. Don’t mix light colors. Choose just white, blue or red, and stick with that color. Displaying a mix of too many colors can be a bit too much for the eye.

7. Don’t just toss your lights o the trees and shrubs. You spent some money on the, you should spend some time and effort hanging them and making them look well.

8. Don’t mix blinking lights with non-blinking ones. Decide which way you want to go, and stick with your decision. Mixing them up will just look bad from the street.

9. Don’t ignore a burnout light or drooping lights. If some of them burn or come loose, go up there right away and fix it.

10. Don’t leave your Christmas decorations up too long. You should take them down and off the lawn by the end of third week of January. You don’t want your neighbors to complain, do you?

Following these basic tips you should do well on decorating your house for this Christmas. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas!
