Holiday Lawn Decoration

Christmas is fast approaching and decorations are showing up in every corner. If you haven’t set-up your holiday lawn decoration yet, you can start designing and planning one of your own. With the use of painted plywood, you can make Christmas gifts, elves, Christmas trees, stockings, Santa Claus and many others.

You can make your holiday lawn decoration as creative and as inspiring as they can be. In the past, Christmas decorations only comprise of a few light strands on the pine trees. However, with the current decorative trends, a lot of festive and extraordinary outdoor holiday lawn decoration is made available. A gingerbread house, for example, is easy to make. It might seem complicated, but creating one for outdoor decoration is not as complicated as you initially think it is. Listed below are the steps on how to build a large-scale gingerbread house for your holiday lawn decoration.

  • Buy a kid’s play tent shaped like a house. These tents are available in many department stores and toy shops. Bear in mind that the design isn’t such a big deal as long as the shape is similar to that of a house.

  • To start creating your gingerbread house holiday lawn decoration, assemble your purchased tent on your front lawn. Place it on top of newspaper layers or tarpaulin.

  • Using a light-brown shade of spray paint, color the tent’s sides, front and back.

  • Set the tent aside, allowing some time to dry. Check the glue’s bottle for directions.

  • Apply multiple paint coats. Set enough time between coatings for the paint to get dry. Continue the painting process until you see the tent achieving an even color, showing none of its original design.

  • Measure the playhouse roof’s width and length. Put an additional 6 inches for every width and length.

  • Use this measurement to make a white swath of craft batting. If needed, staple the small batting pieces together. This will be utilized to create a frosting roof.

  • Get 18 brightly-colored plastic bowls. These will serve as the gumdrop accents of your gingerbread house. Squeeze a liberal quantity of craft glue to each bowl’s upper lips. Overturn each bowl and put them at the top of the batting sheet using a regular pattern.

  • Give the bowls some time to get dry. Check the glue’s bottle for directions.

  • Using craft glue, cover the roof of the playhouse. You can either paint the glue on using a brush or squeeze it directly out from its bottle.

  • Place the craft batting on the roof’s top. Allow it to dangle on every side over the edge.

  • For the final step of the gingerbread house holiday lawn decoration, instead of using paint, color and paint the door and window outlines using a liberal quantity of craft glue. Attach a lot of white stuffing to the outlines. Give them enough time to dry. These stuffing will serve as a drawn-in frosting.

  • You can always glue-in as many colored bowls to your gingerbread house if you want to.

Outdoor Christmas Decorations Don’ts

Christmas is the favorite time of the year for many people, and the best part of it is preparing for it, even if this means decorating your house, shopping for gifts or cooking some special meals.

If decorating you house inside and outside has been a tradition in your family for many years, or you are just starting this now, here are ten things you should NEVER do when putting up your outside Christmas decorations.

1. Don’t start decorating if you don’t have a plan. Take your time and think about how to display your Christmas lawn decorations. Make sure you have all the tools and supplies that you need.

2. Don’t put up the lights without testing them before. You don’t want to spend hours on stringing all the lights, just to realize that some bulbs are burned, or some string doesn’t work at all. Plug them in before you get to work and you will save yourself from getting a headache.

3. Don’t overdo it with inflatable. They may look great and are easy to install, but too many of them will make your yard look like a bounce house party.

4. Don’t risk your own safety. If you have a very steep roof, take extra care when putting up the lights. You may consider hiring a professional in some cases.

5. Don’t line sidewalks with lights if they are not held up by stands. You may risk your stand to be wiped out by a careless driver.

6. Don’t mix light colors. Choose just white, blue or red, and stick with that color. Displaying a mix of too many colors can be a bit too much for the eye.

7. Don’t just toss your lights o the trees and shrubs. You spent some money on the, you should spend some time and effort hanging them and making them look well.

8. Don’t mix blinking lights with non-blinking ones. Decide which way you want to go, and stick with your decision. Mixing them up will just look bad from the street.

9. Don’t ignore a burnout light or drooping lights. If some of them burn or come loose, go up there right away and fix it.

10. Don’t leave your Christmas decorations up too long. You should take them down and off the lawn by the end of third week of January. You don’t want your neighbors to complain, do you?

Following these basic tips you should do well on decorating your house for this Christmas. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas!

Using Outdoor Christmas Decorations

The Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s time to pull out the dusty outdoor Christmas lawn decorations and think about what to do this season.

Having to figure out how to decorate your front yard this Christmas may be a daunting task, so I hope these tips will help you become creative and find your inspiration.

1) You should choose a theme for this year.

If you have too many unrelated Christmas yard decorations you need to choose just a few that are related and get rid of the rest. Decide if you want a modern approach or an old, traditional one. Don’t mix them up and by this I mean don’t put a nativity scene and a Santa next to each other, as they just don’t go well together.

Also, keep an eye on your neighbors, and find out what they are doing this year. You don’t want to blend with the other houses, so if your closest neighbors are trying to have their house seen from an airplane, then you should consider a more subtle, but amazing approach. Think about using only one color for your outdoor Christmas lights, so they don’t compete with the holiday madness surrounding you.

2) Determine the type of Christmas lights you need and want to use.

You can choose mini lights that are low voltage and come in all sort of colors. The prices vary for this type of lights, but you should be careful not to get the cheapest ones, as these will most likely burn very soon, and if one bulb burns, the whole string goes out.

The C7 and C9 lights are the traditional Christmas outdoor lights, and the advantage for using these lights is that they will stay lit if a bulb goes out, and their size makes them easily visible from distance.

Other types of lights are:

  • Icicle lights, which you can hang from your roof
  • Net lights – these are great for small trees and bushes in your front lawn
  • rope lights – a great alternative if you don’t want to deal with tangled strings of lights. They come in all colors possible, and are usually 18 feet long.
  • other types like Moravian, Starlight Sphere add many other could be a good investment to your outdoor Christmas lawn decorations

3) Decide what outdoor Christmas lawn ornaments to use

Choosing from the variety of outdoor Christmas ornaments is something you must do, but not over do. Inflatable lawn ornaments are becoming pretty popular and the upside is that you can store them very easy.

You can choose other types like holographic Christmas decoration, sculptured illuminated decorations some that add a subtle touch to your traditional theme, like the outdoor Topiary ornaments.

4) Make a plan and stick to it.

I recommend drawing a sketch of your yard and decide where you would like to place all your lawn decorations. Taking this strategy and planning the layout before you get to the actual decorating process will allow you to get the job done more quickly,

Remember that less is more, so don’t transform your front yard into a miniature theme park when placing the outdoor ornaments.

5) Get everything prepared and make sure you have all the tools and ornaments you need.

A good idea is to have a few extra bulbs to replace the ones that are burned, or will burn in the next month or two.

A wireless remote control for the power switch is a good investment, or even better, an outdoor timer for your lights will save you from going outside every morning and evening to turn the lights off and on.

Also have prepared a few extension cords, that are safe to use outdoor and some connectors, in case of one outdoor Christmas lighting string is not enough for particular are.

If you keep all of the above in mind and you don’t deviate from your plan and your Christmas decoration theme you should have no troubles putting the lawn ornaments up and create a beautiful decor for your house.

Remember to make it fun and enjoy putting decorating your lawn this year! Let us take care of your Christmas lawn decorations for you!
